Facebook Ads Lessons

Facebook Ads Lessons

The Facebook Ads platform has taught us many things along the journey. These are the 12 major lessons we learned from using Facebook Ads and investing a huge sum of amount in it. We wished we knew these lessons before we started with the ads.

#1 Test International Markets

When we started our first campaign, people from many countries were purchasing our products. Sometimes, we had never heard about that country before people ordered from there. There’s a country called ‘Jersey’ and we got an order from there! We never knew that such a country existed.

In our first campaign, orders from Jersey was outperforming much bigger and known nations like the USA. The major market for any business target is the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia. After our first campaign, we decided to broaden our target market and started selling internationally to almost all the countries except these big four.

Our potential customer lives in another country so we learned never to ignore them and try to reach as many as possible.

#2 Your Funnel Is More Important Than You Think

The entire process of getting your customer to discover and buy the product is your marketing funnel. Even if you have created the greatest Facebook Ad, but if your funnel is not up to mark, then the ad is nothing but trash.

We learned that focusing on the product page is very important. We added a countdown timer, constantly monitored upsells to increase average order value and we also made an ‘exit intent’ popup for the audience who exited the website without buying anything.

#3 Spend More Time Tweaking Your Site Instead Of Your Ads

If you’re ever got into the dilemma of choosing between tweaking your product page or Facebook Ads, we would say always choose your product page.

This page is going to receive more potential customers than your Facebook Ads. Follow the 80-20 rule, spend 80% time tweaking your website, and 20% for tweaking your Facebook ads. Ask yourself this one question at least once a week, “What changes can I make on my product page to get more orders?”

#4 Direct Traffic to Your Product Page

Directing your traffic directly to the product page is more important than directing them to your homepage or collection page. Show the audience what they want to see, don’t show them everything.

Include sections like ‘you make also like’ or ‘people also bought the following products with this item’ on your product page to showcase your collection.

Always direct your Facebook Ads to that product page and nowhere else on your website.

#5 Facebook Ad Engagement is Important

Facebook Ad engagement is important even when you see more like, comments than sales. Never underestimate this attribute even though it does not get converted into sales.

Converting the audience into sales is your product pages and the website’s game. Your Facebook Ads engagement plays a very important role in increasing your ad’s visibility and driving the traffic to your website.

#6 Simple Ads Work Best

Carousel, video, or canvas ads can do wonders you cannot imagine. Keep it as simple as much as possible. Making the ads too fancy and jazzy will only drive the audience away as they would not like to look at it.

Promote the ads with shorter sentences, like “50% Off Only Today” and such.

#7 Facebook is 80% Testing and 20% Optimizing

Test, test, and test until you reach the results you want. At times we even made 20 ads for one product just to which one is creating more traction. In this way, we learn what our audience wants and not what we want.

Also, optimize to make the better ad the best ad. This will drive more traffic to your page like never before!

#8 Once You Succeed, Scale

With hard work and perseverance, anyone can attain success. The catch is to sustain this success and hold your ground and scale it.

Break down the audience into various pools depending upon parameters like cost of conversion, impressions, etc. This will help you to shortlist the areas where more focus and attention are needed which eventually will scale the business.

#9 Scaling isn’t 1:1

Scaling isn’t a piece of cake. You cannot double the sales by investing 2 times into the ads. Of course, increasing your marketing and advertising budget will have more sales, but it won’t get twofold right away.

Scaling is step by step and slow process. You need to take baby steps at first or else you will fall.

#10 Create Separate Pixels for Each Product

This is an advanced marketing technique and you should not use it in the initial stage. Facebook Pixels enables you to sort out your audience based on their activities, like purchasing or ‘add to cart’ or such.

This helps you to understand your audience and target accordingly.

#11 Retargeting Budgets

Re-targeting your customers is more important than when you targeted them the first time. This time that particular person knows who you are, what your brand is, and what you are selling. This time you need to convince them into buying your product, something which you were not able to do earlier.

You need to understand why they left the website the first time before buying the product, and then target them fulfilling these loopholes. On average, we suggest that you should spend around one-fourth of your budget on retargeting.

#12 Get Creative with Retargeting

We have got 9x ROI just by retargeting. But re-targeting is not as easy as it sounds, it needs proper input. For example, in one of our campaigns, we reached out to the social media influencer who uses the same product like ours, or who is related to our line of business. We hired them to endorse our product and this resulted in a ton on sales.

Another method that we used was we sent a reminder to the people who saved our ad for later and but never saw it. If they saved your ad the first time, it means that are interested in the product, but might have forgotten to visit the site. Sending them a reminder will make them visit the website which might get converted into a purchase.
